The Roseburn Path is a fantastic asset. You feel like you’re in the middle of the countryside even when you’re passing under Queensferry Road.
If it has to go, then there should be plenty of discussion about how to properly replace it.
Delivering these big infrastructure projects is complex and doing it well is not easy. The more well-informed, rational debate we can have on these subjects the better, in my view.
I decided to reread Sarah’s article again now the consultation results are published & debate about the Roseburn Path versus Dean Bridge routes are kicking off again. The article sets out the issues very well. I think on balance the Roseburn Path is preferable since there will be significantly lower CO2 emissions involved in the construction phase & accommodations will be delivered for cyclists etc. Disruptions associated with moving all the underground services will be avoided. This was a significant issue with earlier tram route construction such as Leith Walk for example.
Getting a more sustainable transport system for Edinburgh is urgent given the threat of the climate emergency which is becoming apparent. We need a decent mass transit system here in Edinburgh.

A very balanced piece, Sarah, let’s hope the conversations stay that way over the time before the final route is decided.
