It was interesting how quickly these plans were shelved after we published yesterday’s newsletter. Does that suggest it hadn’t been fully thought through first? The university were one of several organisations expressing their concern about the repercussions of a formal agreement.

It’s always interesting when ethics come into conflict with commerce. Have we forgotten Beijing’s complete clampdown on civil liberties in Hong Kong and its treatment of Uyghur Muslims in Xinjiang? Perhaps we will, just as we appear to have forgotten all about Tibet. I for one hope that if the university finds its backbone, the commercial sector stands beside it.
