What does good growth look like for Edinburgh?
City business leaders call for unity around plan for investment and jobs
With a new UK Government launching its Modern Industrial Strategy, and the Scottish Government pledging a renewed focus on inward investment, policy-making at local, Scottish and UK level could finally move into alignment.
It’s also timely, with the US Presidential elections looming, to remind ourselves of the Bill Clinton 1992 campaign winning slogan, coined by strategist Jim Carville, on why achieving positive growth is vital. “It’s the economy, stupid.”
The clarion call to beat the drum on that single message swept Clinton to power in the midst of a recession and the economy is again the top priority for US voters. After years of economic stagnation, it is also our top priority on this side of the pond.
