Rave music fans to help fund Princes Street Gardens upgrade
Plus: Edinburgh strikes culture and finance partnership with City of London
When thousands of dance music fans descend on Princes Street Gardens for a weekend-long rave this autumn, they will leave something tangible behind.
The Fly Open Air Festival - a celebration of club music which attracts visitors from across Europe - is one of the Capital’s great cultural success stories of recent years. From a club night in Cabaret Voltaire, in the Old Town, it has grown into Scotland’s biggest youth music brand, with an annual showcase beneath the Castle Rock that is the envy of promoters around the world.
Each year when they visit, rave-goers are invited to make a donation towards the upkeep of the Gardens, which have helped fund environmental improvements including tree planting.
